Collegiate 100 6th Annual Pre Derby Gala

Hello beautiful people! Hope your week is going well, and you had a great weekend. This week I’m going to talk about my RSO, Collegiate 100, 6th annual Pre Derby Gala. This year the event is taking place at the PNC Club in Papa Johns Stadium at 8pm. It’s only one week left of classes, so I’m sure this Gala will be filled with energetic people. Collegiate 100 has brought exquisite and over the top Galas to the Univeristy of Louisville campus for the past six years. Collegiate 100 has had Frankie Beverly and maze, 112, J. Holiday to name a few performers in the past. I’m really excited this year because I’m ahead of the Gala committee and been planning this event for over two months. I think everything will fall in place and will be one of the most successful Galas we ever had. Also at our Pre Derby Gala we announce the next Miss Collegiate and reward her with a crown, sash, bouquet of roses, and a scholarship of $300. Miss Collegiate will serve the next school year and help out with events, community service, programming and more. If your interested in attending our Gala this year, tickets are only ten dollars and we’ll be in the SAC all week selling them. It will definitely be a night to remember!

National Champs!!!

Woot Woot!!! Congratulations to the Kentucky Wildcats on winning their eighth national championship Monday! Hey fellow bloggers, hope all is well and you had and excellent weekend like I had. Last time we talked I was preparing for and exciting matchup against UK and U of L. Unfortunately, U of L did not come out on top and UK moved on to the championship game verses Kansas. I thought U of L played a great game and showed up with the awesome defense. This was the first time UK has won a national championship since 1998 and the first ever for Coach Calipari. With all the adversity Coach Cal had to face, I am so glad he has a ring now. Kentucky pretty much led the whole game but had a little scared at the end of the game from a rally back of KU offense. The final score was KU- 59 and UK- 67 with Doron Lamb leading the way with 22 points. The phenom freshman Anothny Davis had only 6 points but led in every other category with 15 rebounds, 5 assist, 3 steals, and 6 blocks. This team has come so far and know the true diffention of team work. I could only wish they could stay together to dominate college basketball next year. I am sure everyone will put there self in the NBA lottey, but lets ponder on what if this team would stay together? Can we say dynasty! Have a great week fellow bloggers! Peace✌

Final Four Baby!!!

Hey everyone, hope you all are as excited as I am. If you don’t know and was under a rock this weekend, University of Louisville and University of Kentucky both advanced to the final four in New Orleans! This is the first time the two programs are meeting in the final four and really should be a great match up come this Saturday evening. The state of Kentucky is overly excited and anticipating a great rematch from their last meeting on December 31st of last year. UK has won the last three match ups and barely escape their last meeting in Rupp with a 69-62 victory. UK beat Western University, Iowa St., Indiana, and Baylor to advance and is lead by Doron Lamb and phenom freshman star Anthony Davis. U of L beat Davison, New Mexico, Michigan St., and Florida to advance and is lead by two ambitious guards Peyton Siva and Russ Smith. This is UK’s 15th final four appearance and hope to bring home their eighth national championship. In U of L’s mens basketball history this will be their ninth appearance to the final four and have two championships under their belt. Even though I attend U of L, I have been a diehard UK fan all my life, so yes….I will be wearing blue on Saturday at 6:09pm, cheering on the Wildcats! Regardless of whoever wins the game, it is a great moment to be a Kentuckian and I know for a fact either UK or UofL will bring home the ship! Be sure to check out the game on CBS Saturday evening at 6:09pm. Peace. ✌#goCats #goCards

My Secret Love for Big Blue

Hey bloggers, hope all is well…and you had a a great spring break. I spent most of mine on the couch catching up on much needed rest and college basketball. It is great to be an Kentuckian right now since we had four schools selected in the NCAA tournament. Even though I attend the University of Louisville, I am a diehard University of Kentucky fan. Go cats! I do respect U of L and their impressive run to the elite 8 (so far!). Their players have improved a lot and seem to catch wind going in to the Big East Championship. Non to less the cards are one of the toughest defensive teams in the country. It is kinda hard being a UK fan on UofLs campus because everyones feels my loyalty should be toward the cards. However, as a native Kentuckian I am a lifetime cats fan! I really hope that Louisville and Kentucky have an opportunity to meet in the final four to finally decide who will be the king of the bluegrass! If this Dream does come true I will for sure be in the N.O. wearing blue baby. Well keep your fingers cross and I talk to you next week! #GoCats #GoCards

Tamale, Ghana

Hello fellow bloggers and friends! I hope you all had a great weekend and are ready for a productive and great week ahead. Well I received a phone call from Sister Cities of Louisville today to set up a interview for a study aboard trip I applied for a month ago. Tamale, Ghana is the location I choose and I could not be anymore happier. I have always dreamed of going to Africa and hopefully it can become reality. Sister Cities of Louisville mission is to create opportunities for Louisville citizens and citizens of Sister Cities to work together in creating international community partnerships. Also to stimulate exchanges and projects in the areas of professional economic development, education, community initiatives, arts and culture, medicine, tourism, and technology. I plan to serve my project in education and maybe teach English to young Ghanian males. Everything is pretty much still up in the air and still need to make it past my interview stage, so I will keep you all posted on the details. Keep me in your prayers! Peace. ✌

Spring Break is Approaching!!!

Hello beautiful people!!! I hope everyone had a excellent weekend and week. This weeks topic will be on spring break. Here at the University of Louisville we are in week 8 which means spring break is vastly approaching. My partners Mike, Joey, and I made a video on spring break were weinterviewed peers on their plans for spring break 2012. We asked our interviewees how are they funding spring break, where are they going, past experiences on spring break, and what advice do they have for fellow spring breakers. We had great and positive feedback from everyone we interviewed and from fellow classmates when we aired our video. In my four years in college I only participated in one spring break sophomore year when I went on a cruise to the Bahamas. I went with some of my fellow RA co-workers and had a unbelievable great time. Now I want to hear from you, leave me a comment and let me know about some of your past experiences on spring break. Take care fellow blogggers and have a blessed and productive week. Peace. ✌

Fashion Shoot

Hello Everyone, I hope you all had an excellent and exciting weekend. I also hope you all enjoyed my last post and had a great V-Day. This week I want to talk about something I am working on this week that might interest some of those fashion bloggers out there. I arranged a photo shoot to take place today in a Grotto by my apartment complex. I found this aspiring photographer through a friend at U of L and asked two friends to be models. I have to make a creative for a company or brand for my stratigic communication class. I decided to go with one of my friends up and coming clothing line M.D.F. or My Divine Family. This clothing line features a lot of screen printing of t-shirts, crew sweatshirts, and hoodies and a little vintage wear too. He eventually wants to have his apparel in local shops and boutiques around the city so I thought I could compile a look book for him. A look book is a portfolio of models wearing your apparel and shows a assemble of styles you put together. I thought a look book would be perfect for him so he could show different store owners or merchandisers his clothes and how well he styles without him actually carring apparel with him. I like to think I’m killing two birds with one stone and having a little fun too. I will keep you all posted on the look book and how the photo shoot went. Have a great week and thanks again for taking time out of your day to keep in touch with DwaynessWorld! Peace.

Here’s a couple of pictures off what the look book would look like inside and out.

Valentines Day Blues

Hey Followers! I hope everyone had a great weekend and a excellent V-Day. Valentine’s Day has to be one of the largest commercialize holiday’s ever. Company’s just want you to spend tons of money to show your significant other that you really do care for them. But do we really need V-day to show our counterparts how much we love and care for them? I think everyday should be valentines day then because if you truly love your girl/boyfriend or wife/husband you would show your affection everyday and not just one day out the year. I think so many individuals get caught up in the hype of V-day that they buy gifts, flowers, and candy for the wrong reasons. I’m not trying to sound pessimistic or anything but I think some people just put on this pseudo mirage for others to see how loved they are. I did not have a valentine this year but I had a great day anyways and could not of asked for a better valentines day. I see no sense in stressing and feeling depress on V-day because you do not have a valentine to share it with. Some people do not have mothers to celebrate mother’s day with or fathers to celebrate fathers day with. Two key things I leave for you and what I live by are, “Love yourself before you love another.” and “Count every single blessing, we should be so appreciative and thankful just to see another day.”. Well I hope you all have a great week people and comment if you agree or disagree with my post. Peace.

Collegiate 100 Week 2012

Hello again. I hope everyone had a great Super Bowl weekend, Go Giants! Well this weeks post will be dedicated to a recognized student organization I am apart of and what’s currently going on. Collegiate 100 is a community service organization which is predominantly for African American males focused on giving back to the community in various ways. We were founded on University of Louisville campus Spring 2004 by 17 collegiate men with four main principles: Mentoring, Education, Networking, and Economical Development. We volunteer at Brooklawn Child and Family center every other Saturday where we play physical activities with the kids as part of their therapy. We currently have over 40 members who are active leaders on campus and include former Mr. Cardinal, former SGA President, Homecoming Kings, SOSers, Resident Assistants, SGA representatives, Mentors, and the list can go on and on. We have a great reputation on campus, along with a great work ethic and successful programs/events. This week is Collegiate Week 2012 and we are hosting an abundance of events. Here’s a pic of the flyer for details. Please come out to any event this week on campus if you are available!

Thrift Mondays

I hope everyone had a great weekend and took note to my last blog. I’m happy to say I’m over my flu for the most part, but I am still taking medication. But over that, I want to tell you about something that might interest the fashion/vintage bloggers out there. Every Monday a friend and I go thrifting at Unique Thrift off Preston Hwy. We like to hit up Unique every Monday because they have 25% off everything in the whole store and sometimes 50%. Unique has apparel(Men, Woman, and Kids), shoes, furniture, accessories, and more. I personally like to thrift because I like unique items and pieces that I can place together that I would likely seeing on someone else. The prices range from $1-100, but I never spend more then 10 dollars on a single item. I encourage everyone to check it out, I promise you will not be disappointed. Heres the link to the store for more information if needed. http://www.uniquethriftstore.com/index.aspx I hope you all have a great week and thanks for taking time out of your day reading DwaynessWorld Blog. Heres also some pictures of items I have bought at Unique in the past. Peace.
